Modern Headboards. The new way to transform your bedroom.

In these times of recession, we are all looking for ways to save money. As always, ingenuity and innovation are often the result of enforced frugality. Maximum impact for minimum expenditure has become something of a mantra right now. Statement pieces of furniture can instantly transform the mood, style and atmosphere of a room. A new headboard is a simple, relatively inexpensive way to transform your bedroom.

A quick browse at the headboards available today will surprise you. Headboards have come a long way recently. The selection of materials, styles and prices is now quite mind boggling. You can decide on the style and colour scheme of your room, and then find a headboard to compliment the look you have chosen. Or you may well find it easier to choose the headboard that appeals to you, and use this as a central focal point, or point of reference for the design of the whole bedroom.

Changing your headboard, or choosing a new one for a room which previously did not have one is simple and relatively inexpensive. Whether you are looking for a headboard for your own bedroom, your child's room, a guest room, or a room in a hotel or bed and breakfast, the choice of the right headboard will always enormously enhance the appearance and ambience of the bedroom.

Take a quick survey of your room and decide what style you'd like to create. The layout of the room will dictate whether you want a freestanding headboard or if it would be better attached to the bed. You may decide on a padded headboard, or one made of wood or metal. Wooden and metal headboards give a bedroom an instant look of classic elegance, around which the rest of the décor can be changed to suit your tastes every couple of years. Leather headboards ooze luxury and good taste, and add a more contemporary feel to a bedroom. The possibilities are endless and you may now choose exactly the specific headboard that you want.

A second thing you want to consider when choosing a new headboard for your bed is size. Headboards come in a just about every size imaginable. There are those small enough to fit an infant's bed and those large enough to accommodate the biggest king sized bed. Make sure you take good measurements of your bed before you go shopping for a new headboard. Be sure to pick a headboard adequate to fit the size of your bed but also take into consideration the height of your headboard. Some people prefer the shorter, average sized headboard while others prefer taller, more exaggerated headboards for a bigger overall effect.

The more obvious decision that you will need to make when choosing a headboard is the size that you will need. Headboards come in a huge range of sizes to fit every bed, from and infant's first bed to those for the largest king size bed frames. Simply measure your bed before you start browsing. The height of your new headboard is also a style and practical consideration. Headboards range in height from very short, to the tall designs which can create a focal point not unlike a fireplace and attractive mantelpiece in a living room.

Shopping for headboards is also easier these days. You can go into a furniture shop and browse their in-store collections. However, due to obvious constraints in storage and shop floor space, these shops are not able to offer the extensive ranges available on-line. There are several excellent on-line headboard suppliers, which offer the largest ranges and excellent quality headboards at the click of a mouse.
